The First Day

Do you remember the first day of school, with the thrill of a new book bag filled with brand new crayons, pencils, and the contraband sharpener? Then the butterflies began fluttering as you walked in to a room of unfamiliar faces and looked for your desk and hoped no one would notice? That's kind of how I feel writing this--like it's the first day of school. Should I be formal or informal? Should I be laid-back and funny or serious and sophisticated? Well, as we tell our children, it's best just to be myself. Please feel free to do the same!

Hello friends, old and new--
There are so many things I'd like to share with you!
So take a moment, come and see--
Together we'll make history
As we blog and laugh and learn and share
Favorite tips from everywhere
Teachers, parents, children, too
Let this become the place for you!

Ok--so it's obvious that I've been teaching Kindergarten and my poetry skills are a little rusty! But that's one of the wonderful things about children--they think anything new and creative is wonderful. Believe it or not, they think I draw well! And they LOVE my singing!!!

In this age of blogs and websites, PDA's and laptops, it's so nice to feel the familiar grip of a pencil and face the endless possibilities of a blank sheet of paper. But I'll settle for virtual paper today and work on my typing skills. It's the thought that counts, right?

This is meant to be interactive, a place to share ideas, thoughts and concerns, and to remind ourselves why we do what we do. Every time we impact a child's life, we are making history. Whether it's learning to tie a shoe or solve a quadratic equation, each moment can change the course of that life. And don't forget the power of a smile and a kind word.

So teachers, moms, friends old and new--welcome! This one IS for you!
